Kinda sux. They probably were in good shape before the shipping damage. It happened to me, too, so I sympathize.

I saw something similar the other day on Fleapay...I think it was under the 604's. The guy claimed mint condition but I easily spotted two major flaws. Here it is, I love the both items in pristine condition. The network has the wires all chopped off and the cone has a silicone repair job. Since when does pristine condition equal this?

Seriously though, that is NOT shipping damage. It's packing damage.

You don't ship drivers attached to horns, you just don't.

It appears that this seller/packer shipped both horns and drivers in the same box with the drivers attached to the horns. That damage seems consistent with what the mounting flange of the other horn would have done, particularly with the missing decal and paint. Likely, the flange snapped off the missing terminal, and further pounding from transit with the edge of the flange against the terminal hole opened it up into what is now shown in the pics.

IMHO&E, it is this seller who is responsible for that damage and should eat it's associated costs. The way Altec packed those components when new would still deliver them in perfect shape today. Shipping/handling has changed very little in 30-40 years in terms of what adequate/safe packing consists of. What has changed is the number of insurance claims and inept shipper/packers using the system.

I'm seeing this more and more; the egregious abuse of the terms "mint" and "pristine". Caveat Emptor!

QFT. I recall another thread here where someone said the crying shame is every time one of these lazy/ignorant sellers does this, another speaker bites the dust, increasing the rarity of the remaining units. Granted, sometimes you can pack it well, and the shipipng gorilla is still gonna crush one every so often, but I really have got no love for the kind of blatent profiteering and false advertising that's going on with some of these damaged units... I guess as long as there is an uninformed buyer willing to pay, the market will continue to allow it.
